FIBER OPTIC BUILDOUT FOR THE CITY OF DULLELL
Introduction Federated Broadband is embarking on an exciting project to enhance its internet infrastructure by deploying a fiber optic network in the City of Dunnell. This initiative aims to provide high-speed, reliable internet access to residents and businesses. Project Details Buildout Start Date: May 2024 Construction Consent Form: Residents interested in connecting to the fiber network will need to complete a construction consent form. The deadline for submitting construction consent form for the current buildout is May 6th, 2024. Any drops submitted after this date will be placed on a waitlist for the next round of connections. If you are a current customer of our Fixed Wireless services, a construction consent form is still required to receive the fiber drop. Late Completion of Fiber Drop: If the fiber drop form is submitted after the due date, any costs incurred for the installation will be the responsibility of the customer. This includes the labor, materials, and any additional work required to connect your home to the fiber network. Timely Submission: To avoid any unexpected expenses, we encourage customers to submit their fiber drop requests promptly. Early submission ensures that the installation process can be scheduled efficiently, minimizing delays and potential costs. Drop Types: o Aerial Drops: All connections from the electric pole to the home will be aerial. There is no cost to the owner to receive an aerial drop. In some cases there may be an underground drop if aerial is not an option. o Underground Drops: Customers who prefer an underground connection will be responsible for the associated cost. Contact our office for more details and pricing. Federated Broadband Fiber Rates Federated Broadband offers competitive fiber rates for both residential and business customers. Here are the available plans: Fiber Rates Note: The information provided here is based on general recommendations. Actual usage may vary depending on individual requirements. Managed Wi-Fi is included with all fiber connections, eliminating the need for customers to purchase and manage their own routers. Additionally, Federated Broadband provides troubleshooting support over the phone, saving you service call fees. For extended Wi-Fi coverage, customers can add an additional mesh for $10/month (plus tax). Static IP A Static IP address is a fixed, unchanging numerical label assigned to a device or network interface within a network. Unlike Dynamic IP addresses, which can change periodically, a Static IP remains constant. Federated Broadband offers a Static IP as an optional add-on to all our internet plans. Cost for a Static IP with a fiber connection is $10/month. Network Interface Device (NID) As part of the fiber optic buildout, a Network Interface Device (NID) will be installed on the side of each home. The NID serves as the connection point between the main fiber line and the internal network within the home. Here are the key details about the NID: Purpose: The NID acts as an isolation point, separating the external fiber network from the customer’s premises. It allows for easy maintenance and troubleshooting. Location: The NID will be securely mounted on the exterior of the home, typically near the electric meter or utility entrance. Fiber Connection: The NID houses the fiber connection that runs from the main line to the customer’s premises. It ensures a reliable link between the external network and the home network. Customer Responsibility: While the aerial drop from the electric pole to the home is part of the buildout, any preference for an underground drop will be at the customer’s cost. If you choose an underground connection, the NID will still be placed on the side of your home. For pricing on an underground drop, please call our office and speak to one of our support staff at 507-847-1001. Remember, this NID is a crucial component that facilitates high-speed internet access within your residence. If you have any questions or need further clarification, feel free to reach out to Federated Broadband. Phone Services Federated Broadband is diligently working on expanding its services to include Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). Here’s the current status and what you can expect: 1. Licensing Process: Federated Broadband is in the final stages of obtaining the necessary licenses to offer VoIP services. This ensures compliance with regulations and quality standards. 2. Network Maintenance: The network infrastructure is undergoing maintenance and optimization to seamlessly integrate VoIP capabilities. This includes enhancing call quality, reliability, and security. 3. Pricing: While negotiations are ongoing, the anticipated cost for VoIP service is expected to fall within the range of $20 to $25 per month (plus taxes and fees). Note: This price is subject to change. This competitive pricing aims to provide affordable communication options for residents and businesses. 4. Number Portability: Federated Broadband recognizes the importance of maintaining existing phone numbers. Customers may have the option to keep their current phone number when transitioning to VoIP. Stay tuned for further updates! Federated Broadband is committed to enhancing communication experiences for the community. Conclusion While we would love to serve all locations in Dunnell, drops will only be installed at occupied locations. Fiber drops to the homes will only be done if a Construction Consent Form is received before May 6th, 2024 for this buildout phase. If you’re ready to experience lightning-fast internet, get ready for the fiber buildout!
